Neville Raath was raised on a farm in the Britstown district, where his early exposure to agriculture—particularly the cultivation of lucerne on the Smartt Syndicate as part of his father’s operation—sparked a lifelong passion for crop production.
He completed his MSc Agric degree at Stellenbosch University, where he researched the allelopathic effects of wheat straw on yield and quality under different soil preparation systems. His professional journey began as a researcher at the Western Cape Department of Agriculture at Elsenburg, during the rise of conservation agriculture in the region.
Neville’s interest in the broader agricultural sector led him to the former Western Cape Agricultural Union (now Agri Western Cape), where he served as Secretary of Industry Services. This role allowed him to build lasting relationships across farming organizations and leadership structures. However, his desire to work more closely with practical farming soon drew him back into the field.
He joined Kynoch Fertilizer as an agronomist in Heidelberg, Southern Cape, where he developed deep expertise in plant nutrition within the grain and pasture sectors. His position later evolved into a research-focused role, where he spent over 80% of his time conducting trials and generating field-based insights.
After 14 years in the fertilizer industry, Neville transitioned to Experico Agri-Research in Stellenbosch—a private agricultural research firm—where he led numerous client-directed trials. These included work on plant nutrition and biostimulants under both controlled and field conditions, and he eventually advanced to the role of Senior Researcher.
In 2021, he returned briefly to the fertilizer industry with Constantia Fertilizer, before rejoining Kynoch as a sales agent and later moving to Anorel, a Belgian company, where he worked on product trials for biostimulant registration.
Neville’s journey took a new turn when he joined Agrisell as a property agent. In this role, he combines decades of agricultural experience with a deep understanding of farming communities to assist clients in making informed and responsible land decisions. Given that farmland is often owned by multiple generations of a family, Neville sees his work as a trusted advisor in the buying and selling of farms as both a professional responsibility and a personal honor.
He feels truly at home at Agrisell, where he has found a team defined by friendliness, integrity, and support. Despite this being a new chapter, Neville is excited and optimistic about the road ahead.

Neville is married to Lizelle Roux, originally from Moorreesburg. Together they have three children:
