Growing up in Tokai, Cape Town, surrounded by forests and vineyards is where Gary Terblanche’s love for nature grew. He matriculated at Rondebosch Boys High School in 1982 during which time he was an avid three-phase competitor – horse cross country, dressage, and show jumping – in local competitions. And winning a few…
His student years were spent at UCT studying for a B.Com degree in accounting, maths, and commercial law before joining military service which prepared him well for his later work at Agrisell.
His responsibilities and duty as a platoon commander, and later company commander in the equestrian mounted patrol of the Infantry School in Oudtshoorn, has taught him leadership and management skills which were invaluable when he took the reins of Agrisell’s commercial and industrial division.
Gary has been in the property industry since 1987. He started in timeshare and repositioned into residential sales until in was able to market farms which was always his ultimate goal. To give the best possible service to all clients is what he strives for and for that, he will go the extra mile to assist wherever he can.
Gary lives with his wife Sarah on a smallholding in Somerset West where they run a small guesthouse called Tuckaway. This has taught him a lot about the hospitality industry which has been of great help when advising farm owners on generating additional farming income. “Start a short-term rental like an Airbnb or farmstall and if you have the land, initiate a farmers’ market for the trading and selling of produce.”
In his spare time, Gary loves taking his Land Rover for 4×4 trips into the wilderness and unwinds by winding axle twisters and then spending time around the campfire with a beer and braai tongs in hand.
